SPMC by SemperPax is a free video playing and editing app available for Android devices.

SPMC is an unofficially coded fork from the Kodi app that has been optimized and dedicated to Android users. The app is programmed and maintained by the former Kodi for Android maintainer.

Kodi is an open source home theater software that is multi-platform and can run on almost any device in existence. There are multiple different Kodi softwares and applications, some created in an official capacity and some created in an unofficial one. Because the software is open source, it's constantly being refined and expanded upon by its considerable user base.

SPMC is designed to work as an alternative to Kodi software by taking the main Kodi software and improving upon it. You can use SPMC to remotely connect to your varying devices and stream dozens of different media file types on them.

The SPMC user interface is designed to be as accessible as possible. All of your media is categorized and sorted in one easily navigated menu. You'll also have a list of the devices that are connected to the SPMC software, along with details about their streaming and remote viewing capabilities. You can make video playlists, catalog your files, and create videos in the highest quality available for your device.

Permissions required by SPMC

  • ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE: Allows applications to access information about networks.
  • BLUETOOTH: Allows applications to connect to paired bluetooth devices.
  • GET_TASKS
  • INTERNET: Allows applications to open network sockets.
  • MODIFY_AUDIO_SETTINGS: Allows an application to modify global audio settings.
  • READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE: Allows an application to read from external storage.
  • RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED: Allows an application to receive the ACTION_BOOT_COMPLETED that is broadcast after the system finishes booting. If you don't request this permission, you will not receive the broadcast at that time. Though holding this permission does not have any security implications, it can have a negative impact on the user experience by increasing the amount of time it takes the system to start and allowing applications to have themselves running without the user being aware of them. As such, you must explicitly declare your use of this facility to make that visible to the user.
  • WAKE_LOCK: Allows using PowerManager WakeLocks to keep processor from sleeping or screen from dimming.
  • WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE: Allows an application to write to external storage.
